Real Oviedo left back Christian Fernández visited the press room after Anquela's men completed a physical-tactical training session at El Requexón training facility.

Before the new season starts, the Real Oviedo defender understands that this is "a new project, with new faces and renewed vigor. These weeks are a time of improvement in every sense of the word, both mental and physical".

Christian Fernández, who worked alongside Anquela during his time with SD Huesca, seemed pleased about the arrival of the new coach, saying "I have a special affection for him. He has been important to me, he has helped me. I
hope to be able to give back all that he has given me in this new chapter. In Huesca, he was the savior, the captain of a ship that was adrift. He united a broken team, encouraging the word ´team´. He was capable of making
everything happen because of that word. It´s a word that will continue to accompany him in this chapter, he's focused on it every day". Additionally, when asked about what he would highlight about the Real Oviedo trainer,
Fernández said that "I would say his sincerity, because it is one of the indications of his identity. I value it a lot.

Concerning the style of football that he will try to express on the field and what he will ask of the team, Christian Fernández believes that "work, commitment, and teamwork is what he will ask of us. He has a clear idea, and a group that is strong and united. Both in the attack and the defence we have to be strong, that is what he is going to foster. For the coach, the team takes priority over the individual, which is key in this category. He is focused on tactics. Each individual movement has to be
reflected across the team, we have to be as one. We'll get it down quickly, the ideas are simple. It's his concept of football and it is made possibly by work and individual sacrifice for the team. For him, "me" doesn't exist".

Regarding the Jaén man´s approach to work, being an energetic and demanding trainer, Christian Fernández ensure that "you haven't seen anything yet. We are in the preseason, more relaxed, but when the season starts he is going to be in his pure state. I prefer a coach who puts pressure on us and communicates with us, and that is what the coaching staff fosters. The key is to generate an environment of positive work and urgency".

Finally, about the competition for the position of left back for which Christian Fernández will have to challenge Varela, the "carbayón" player understands that "we are both left backs with different profiles. The coach will have that option. The fact that I have been with him before in no waybestows me the position. Anquela isn't married to any of us. He is going to require the most of us, and that's the reality of it".
