Real Oviedo defender Christian Fernández appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today, following the first team’s return to training.

The press conference began with an analysis of the state of the team following the opening two fixtures, with Christian saying that “it’s true it’s not the best situation to be in. We’ve got one point when we could have had four, which changes things. We need to be aware that what is lost cannot be recovered.”

Christian Fernández moved on to discuss the areas the team needs to improve in ahead of the coming fixtures in LaLiga SmartBank, highlighting that “we’re not working harmoniously. We need to link up better on the field. We are conceding goals and we have to impose ourselves, since there’s a lot of margin for improvement.”

Asked about the importance of winning the next trip, which is to the Fernando Torres stadium, the defender argued that “the need has been there since the first day. We are here to win. The start hasn’t been ideal, but we must be realistic and responsible for knowing that we have a lot at stake. We can’t go into Matchday 5 with only one point. It would create unnecessary anxiety.” In addition, regarding the next opponent, Fuenlabrada, Christian underlined that “they’ve come up with excitement and they know the points they get now will help them in the future. We have to go there with humility, because they’re five points ahead of us. We have to get wins to push for better things.”

Finally, asked whether he prefers to play in the centre of the defence or at left back, the Carbayón player concluded by saying that “I just see myself playing each week. I’m a team player and I’ll play wherever they need me. I played everywhere last season. It’s a long season and there will be opportunities for everyone. We need to get points and as high up the table as possible, in order to achieve our objectives.”
