At the end of this morning’s training session (30/3/16) at El Requexón training ground, the Asturian painter Faustino Ruiz de la Peña presented Diego Cervero with a portrait, of which the forward himself is the main subject. The work of art portrays the goalscorer’s famous header against Cadiz.
The oil on canvas painting shows the exact moment of the “Carbayon” striker’s bullet header towards the opposing goal, which levelled the score at 1-1.
Faustino Ruiz de la Peña (born in Oviedo, 1969) graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and is one of the most significant figurative painters on the Asturian art scene.
A member of a well-known family of artists (and Oviedo fans), Faustino Ruiz de la Peña is a season ticket holder at the club. As a sign of our appreciation, the painter was presented with this season’s official shirt, personalised with his name and the number 9, by the Oviedo captain himself.
