The Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere today provided the setting for the official presentation of Alejandro Arribas as a Real Oviedo player.
The centre back, who passed a medical at Clínica Asturias this morning before training at El Requexón, was accompanied by the club’s Director of Football, Miguel Pérez Cuesta ‘Michu’. Michu welcomed him to the club, wishing him “all the luck in the world.”
For his part, the defender began by stating that “it’s a pleasure to be at this club. I wish to thank the club for its faith in me, and I hope to repay it on the pitch.” In addition, regarding what had brought him to Real Oviedo, Arribas commented that “life isn’t just about money. This club wanted me and believes in me and I’m grateful. The opportunity emerged in the past few days and the people working here have had a big influence; they’ve been key. When a club wants you right from the start it’s important; it’s worth much more than anything else.”
With respect to his role in the team, Arribas said that “defence is an important position. I am coming here excited and hungry to work hard.” Furthermore, talking about his experience and how it can benefit the squad, the new signing said that “I’m proud that people value my experience, but I’m here to contribute my humility and give my all every weekend. We have a great team, with young players who bring a lot of hunger. We have to be hopeful, take it a game at a time and know that every point is crucial.”
Regarding his first contact with his new teammates and the coaching staff, the centre back said that “I’ve not spoken to anybody yet. I’m going to see them now and going to the match (tonight). I’m delighted to join this project. I know Sergio Egea, we trust each other, and we will talk about what he wants from me.” In addition, asked about his fitness and whether he’ll be able to join the squad in training tomorrow, Arribas believes that “I’m a little bit off, but I’m in good shape. I started preseason with Pumas, I’ve been training and working for more than a month and a half. I just want to train now so that I’m ready for the first game. There would be nothing better than making my debut at Riazor, since Deportivo was my last club in Spain.”
Finally, regarding the objective for the season, Arribas concluded by saying that “I see myself finishing as high as possible. It’s what we all want. We know it will be a long and difficult season, but we will go into each game to pick up points.”
