Real Oviedo Head Coach Juan Antonio Anquela appeared in the Press Room today at El Requexón.

The Jaen-born coach began his remarks by assessing the status of the injured players ahead of the match against Alcorcón: “We will wait for Juan (Forlín); we don’t want to risk it. Javi (Hernández) has trained with the group and it’s possible that he’ll be ready for the match.”

Regarding the selection of Saturday’s Matchday Squad, the Coach admitted that “it’s hard. I have to decide who to leave out and then think about what’s best for the team. Tomorrow I’ll have to decide, but today I’m thinking it over.”

Ahead of the match against the Madrid side, Anquela highlighted that “Alcorcón is a great side. They know what they are doing, constantly reinvent themselves, and are always up there.”

When asked about possible changes to the starting eleven, the Real Oviedo Coach reasoned that “nobody is indispensable here. We will play to the best interests of the team, and strive to be strong. I would like to see different options, but you have to make those changes when you aren’t getting results. If things are going well, we try to make as few changes as possible.” Moreover, speaking about Johannesson’s possible return to the full-back position, Anquela stated that “I have a lot of faith in Diegui, he’s unpredictable. He can play in several positions and he gives us a lot of options. Diegui is a very direct player. There are many players, and many good ones, but we have to see how they all work together. We have to keep going with things clear in our minds.”

With respect to the change in form in 2019 and one of the best starts to a year in recent decades, Anquela stated that “we have never stopped believing and at the moment we have luck on our side. The team has always had the same approach. We’ll see if the run continues.”

Finally, when asked about the “Tartiere Roar” offer, the coach concluded that “playing football in front of a lot of people is always better. We have our fans, who never let us down, and we have to win for our people.”
