Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared before the press following the first team training session at El Requexón.

The Coach began by evaluating the week, declaring that, “things are going well. The lads are working in the right way and training well. The only thing left to do is to carry it onto the pitch and manage to win the match.”

Talking about what the team needs to pick up the three points and what it would mean moving forward in the season, Juan Antonio Anquela stated that, “we need to win. That is what we have to think. Winning matches carries consequences as you know you’ve done things well and the others not so well. The Segunda División doesn’t forgive mistakes. We must stay calm; we will find the solution. Nobody has ever gifted me anything. Everything we have done, we have done through hard work, belief in what we are doing, and the belief that we will achieve it. Now we must stick together and move forward. We have to fight, work, and withstand the storm. We are ready for it.”

With respect to what the team has to do to gain the three points on Sunday at the Carlos Tartiere he said that, “It all comes from keeping clean sheets. We aren’t doing things as I want us to. We must seek perfection. In general terms, the team is going into games with desire, and we want to correct the situation now. If we think that they are going to give us something or that we can win without effort then we are very much
mistaken. The team which works hard and gives everything is rewarded in football. Results come from working with intensity for the full 90 minutes. We can’t give anything away.” In addition, talking about what he expects to see from the team against Córdoba, the Coach replied, “a group which competes and is solid. In order to win you must do many things well and have some luck. We can’t make mistakes, and if we do then they must be
as minor as possible.”

Regarding the team’s work from week to week, the Carbayón Coach assured that, “I can’t complain. The only thing lacking is seeing it being carried in matches. Out on that pitch everyone is put in their place, and I only ask that we are at the level of our fans. We don’t even reach the height of their feet; we are indebted to them. Wherever we go there are Real Oviedo fans, and we must protect that asset. We must do things to a high
standard”.

Finally, with respect to the next opponent, Córdoba, and what he expects to see from the Andalusian side at the Carlos Tartiere, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “I’m sure we will see a good football team. They have some very good players. They have beaten big teams at home. At the moment they are in a difficult patch and are being punished excessively,” he concluded.
