Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today.
Ahead of this weekend’s match against Albacete, the Coach believes that “the key thing is to try to pick up points, because it’s the most important thing in this division. We have to do things well. We want to get rid of this burden, but we are aware that we need to improve.”
Asked what he thinks has happened to his team in their home matches so far this season, the Coach said that, “there are footballing explanations. I’m critical and I analyse things, looking for why things happen. We have to be together and armed, knowing what we want. We haven’t given that sensation at home except for the first day. I believe that we are capable, but we have to know where we are and be demanding of ourselves. My players are ready and we will try to get a victory.”
Regarding the next opponent, Albacete, Anquela stated that, “there are no accidents. Things go however you make them go. Albacete come into this doing well despite changing their style a lot. They are solid, difficult to play against and playing good football. It’s no accident that they’re up there.”
With respect to the injured players and how they affect the team’s plans for Sunday, the coach admitted that, “I’m worried about them but I’ve never complained. We have problems with keeping clean sheets and that’s the area of the pitch that we have most injuries. We need to push on and do things well. This is the Segunda División. It’s very difficult and there are times when things go well for you and times when they don’t. We have to believe in what we are doing and in our work.”
Asked about his spirits following recent matches, Anquela stated that, “I’m not ever angry, but I worry. It was tough for me to become Real Oviedo Coach and I’m very happy here. Everyone gets nervous and I want my players to run. I depend on my footballers and on the results, but I’m not going to change my way of working. I wasn’t born a Real Oviedo fan but it’s impossible not to identify with this club. The people’s feelings reach you and give you responsibilities. People here even worry about training matches!”
With respect to the atmosphere he’s expecting this Sunday against Albacete, the Coach commented that, “the Tartiere always helps us and I expect nothing else. When we have problems, however relative, that’s when they are there. If we don’t perform then they are right.”
Finally, regarding the possibility of B team players coming into the matchday squad, Anquela highlighted that, “I think they’ve done very well. We built our squad in the knowledge that we had a good team backing it up. If we have to use them, we will use them. People have made their debuts because they’ve deserved to do so and because they’ve shown that they’re ready,” he concluded.
