Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this morning ahead of the final match of the calendar year, against Málaga.

The Coach, asked about his position after the last two poor results, was unequivocal. “It’s clear that it’s a very important match. I’m not the slightest bit worried about my future. I am only worried about Real Oviedo winning, nothing else. I have never conned anybody. I have never stopped working for this team, nor will I do so. Things are as they are due to us not winning. It’s hard for them to question many other things. Sometimes even experience isn’t enough here because it’s difficult, but you have to stay calm. You have to surround yourself with the people who love you. The vast majority of the people here in Oviedo are behind me, and that’s very important to me. I am going to fight like I have done all my life. I will treat every game as if it were the last, and that’s it. Getting involved in any other assessments would be pointless.”

Asked about receiving his players’ backing, Anquela thanked them and agreed that, “we’ve never given the sensation of being ‘dead’. I know my players can do things better or worse, make mistakes or not, but I have no doubts whatsoever that they believe in what we are doing.”

With respect to this Saturday’s opponent, the Coach described Málaga as “a great club whose stats this season have taken them to where they are.” However, he also issued a reminder that in this division “every game is a different story.”

Regarding recent matches, in which the team has not got good results, Anquela argued that, “the team is doing more now, but the results are the only thing that matters.”

With Ibra now becoming another injury victim, the Coach explained that, “I’ve never cried about it and I’m not going to, despite us having a lot of injury problems. I haven’t complained. We’ve kept fighting and doing what we can. In the last two matches we’ve suffered some results we didn’t deserve. I’ve never conned and I will never con anybody. When everybody is available we will compete, and when they’re not we have to suffer and hope for the necessary luck. You can call it bad luck or poor finishing in the last couple of games, but we’ve lost. We have to push on with the people we have available and I’m totally convinced that we are going to do well and get out of this. Totally convinced.”

Asked what he expects of the Tartiere this Saturday, Anquela said that, “I know of some fans who never let us down, and I will look to those people. Nothing else.”

When asked whether it had been a normal week for him, the Real Oviedo Head Coach argued that, “there’s never a normal week here. I always speak to the people at the club because there has to be dialogue. They told me to keep doing what I do, keep working and get the win. Nothing else,” he concluded.
