Unlucky to Draw

Real Oviedo couldn’t make the most of their chances, picking up a point from a 0-0 draw against Málaga and bringing the year to a close at the Tartiere

Real Oviedo were unable to bid farewell to 2018 with a victory, despite once again deserving more, in front of a Tartiere crowd which backed its team to the end.

Real Oviedo are currently plagued by injuries, and Omar Ramos was the latest to pull up, suffering an injury in the warmup. Viti took his place in the starting eleven, and the home side were unthreatened in the first half. The first attempt was a long-range shot from Javi Hernández, which went over. Champagne saved a Málaga effort from a corner without problems. His counterpart, Munir, meanwhile, saved the best chance of the first half. He kept out Viti’s driven shot across goal, while the rebound by Bárcenas was denied by some excellent defending. Toché also had a chance at the front post from Javi Hernández’s fine cross from the left wing, but the defence cleared his effort.

The match continued in much the same way after the break. Not overly troubled in defence, Anquela’s side went in search of a goal, and Christian Fernández’s chance at the far post was cut out by Munir. Toché, in discomfort, was replaced by Steven. The forward combined with Johannesson and Viti in a fine passage of play, which ended with Viti hitting the post after bursting into the area. Málaga pushed forward in the final stages, but ‘Los Azules’ defended well and secured a point. They were left with a bitter taste in their mouths, however, as they bid farewell to this year in front of their fans.

The team are scheduled to return to training at 10:30 on 2nd January, at El Requexón.
