With Sporting fans eventually turning up in the stands at the Tartiere, the derby was played with a spectacular atmosphere, befitting of the Rea Oviedo fans.  The Oviedistas played the starring role in the pre-match period and early stages of the match, waving their flags and displaying a beautiful 'tifo' worthy of a big occasion.
Javi Rozada opted to bring Riki into the starting eleven.  Little or no football was played in the opening minutes.  Both teams attempted to counteract their opponent, and the only chances fell to Rozada's side. Ortuño had the best chance, after controlling and turning in the area and firing towards the front post, but his effort was cleared for a corner. Champagne intervened to get a touch on a shot fired across goal from the right on the counterattack, again tipping the ball around the post for a corner.  The game was dominated by fouls, intensity, and little danger from either side.
It started to rain in the second half and the pitch condition got worse. Sporting upped their intensity, and Real Oviedo found it tough to attack. Omar and Ibra came on, and Los Azules kept trying and had a couple of chances from set pieces, although their opponents also had a goal disallowed for offside.  Little more happened in the match.  It ended in a 0-0 draw, which, after two home victories in the previous two derbies at the Tartiere, felt like scant reward to the home fans.
