The coach of Real Oviedo, Guillermo Almada, appeared before the media after the defeat suffered this Wednesday against Rayo Vallecano (3-0). In a press room marked by self-criticism and a reflective tone, the blue coach took responsibility and called for an immediate reaction from the team.
The coach did not hide the severity of the blow, acknowledging that it was the weakest match since his arrival on the Carbayón bench. “I don't consider anything lost, although we played the worst game since we arrived. I saw the team exhausted from the other day. We tried to recover, but we didn't show the necessary spark. We played poorly and didn't deserve any other result than this,” he explained.
In his opinion, the accumulated fatigue ended up being decisive in the development of the match. “Sometimes football is a thorny and tough road, and now we have to face it and try to overcome it. We need to recover the players and make the best decisions,” he added.
The coach also referred to the mood in the locker room after the final whistle. “The players are down, and on top of that, we ended with Borbas injured when we had already used all our substitutions. The result is painful, but we are grown men, and we have to get up for Monday. There are still many games left... although we knew that playing this match now, we were going to be the big losers.”
In his analysis, he emphasized the lack of freshness as one of the key factors. “We didn't have the spark we usually have. I saw many players tired, and that is decisive in football. We are going to conduct a very thorough analysis of this situation, and we hope it doesn't happen again, although we have little time until the match against Espanyol.”
Finally, the Uruguayan coach once again acknowledged that the team especially felt the effects of the effort made days earlier against Atlético. “I saw many players exhausted; the match against Atlético took its toll on us. We were able to make five substitutions, but if we could have made eleven, we would have. We also lacked rebellion. We can only look for the best alternatives within what we have; if there is someone to blame for this defeat, it is me. We have to find strength in weakness and face Monday's game.”
