Real Oviedo and Diego Menéndez 'Dieguito' have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract with the blue entity until June 30, 2028. In this way, the footballer will continue wearing the Oviedo team's jersey for the next two seasons.
The midfielder, who can play in various positions in the offensive area, joined the academy in 2011 from San Juan de La Carisa. In his first seasons as a blue player, the attacking midfielder, born in 2005, was crowned champion of Spain in the benjamín category.
After progressing through all the youth categories and making his debut in the Copa del Rey with the first team against Club Deportivo Castellón, Dieguito has become a key player for Roberto Aguirre in the outstanding season of Real Oviedo Vetusta, which currently leads Group I of the Segunda Federación. This season, the player has accumulated 23 matches, scored five goals, and totaled 1,694 minutes.
In first-team dynamics
As part of his sporting progression, Dieguito will join the first-team dynamics in the 2026/27 season. In this way, the midfielder will have the opportunity to work under the orders of Real Oviedo's coaching staff, taking another step in his growth process after his remarkable season with the carbayón reserve team. This presence also represents recognition of his performance and evolution within the blue academy.
With this agreement, the paths of the institution and the midfielder will remain linked for the next two seasons, and the club reinforces its commitment to continuity and the construction of a solid project for the present and future.
