Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Alfonso Herrero, appeared in the Press Room this morning, following his key role in Seville last Sunday. He made several important saves, as well as keeping out a penalty, to preserve the three points for Los Azules.

The keeper wanted to highlight “the great work from the team. We knew how to compete against an opponent who play good football with only ten of us on the field. It was a difficult match, but we knew how to stay strong. I believe the main thing to highlight is the teamwork. We were all together, and we managed to earn the victory.”

The shot-stopper explained that the recent results are “the fruit of all the hard work we’ve done. We know what we are looking for and what we want to achieve, and in the last few matches you’ve seen more from us. We are all together, we know what we are going for, how to defend, and how to cause damage to our opponents. That is the important thing at the end of the day, and it’s what we’ve been working on with the Coach right from the start.”

Talking about himself personally, having played a year with the B team, Alfonso explained that, “ever since I arrived at this club I’ve been mpreparing myself because I knew this chance could appear. I have trained to a high standard every day, and now I am making the most of this period. I hope it can continue like this, and that the team keeps going as well as it has been up until now.”

Regarding the fans’ excitement, the keeper declared it, “normal, but we have to stay calm and remember that the important thing is to take it one game at a time, and that there is a long way to go.” Cultural Leonesa are the visitors this weekend, and Alfonso stated that, “they play very good football and have good players. However, we have the most important factor on our side. We have the Tartiere and our fans behind us, pushing us forward together.”

Finally, when asked about the penalty he kept out in Seville, Alfonso explained that, “every week we analyse and study our opponents, and put a lot of work in. Segura (the goalkeeping coach) always shows us the penalty stats, and in this case, we looked at Curro. I dived where he’d told me the ball might go, and I was luckily enough to save it.”
