Anquela: “I don’t know what euphoria means”

The Coach insists on “not getting carried away”, and issues a reminder that “we don’t beat anyone on name alone”, ahead of the game against a Cultural side “who do things very well”

Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this lunchtime following the team’s training session at El Requexón.

The Coach began by declaring that, “there are no calm weeks in football. You are always happier when you win, but this job means that you are never relaxed.” Cultural Leonesa are the visitors this weekend, and Anquela described them as, “a very difficult opponent. They have lost the same number of matches as ourselves. They are a good team, who do things very well, and will make it a difficult game for us. We both like to have the ball, and it will be a tight and competitive match.”

Asked about the state of the pitch at the Tartiere, Anquela admitted that, “it is a worry, but they are working on it as much as they possibly can, and we can’t keep thinking about it. We have to adapt to it, and it will never be an excuse.”

With respect to whether the euphoria surrounding the team concerns him, the Coach said that, “I don’t know what euphoria means. Euphoria would be if people were getting carried away, and I don’t see anybody euphoric around me. We must keep competing and playing as we have been doing in the last few matches.”

2017 comes to a close with a match against Cultural, and Anquela is not thinking beyond that fixture to the two consecutive away games at the start of 2018. “I have no idea what is going to happen in the future. I’m thinking about this Saturday, and whether people think we can win on name alone. We won’t beat anybody if we aren’t at our best, and sometimes it’s difficult even to draw, because that’s how this division is. Anyone who wishes to fool themselves can do so, but I will never do that, since football has taught me not to,” he concluded.
