Real Oviedo were unchanged and got off to a flying start in front of more than 1,000 travelling Oviedistas at El Sardinero.  Los Azules dominated the opening minutes and were causing a lot of danger, including an attempt from Borja Sánchez following some fine individual play.  Juanjo Nieto opened the scoring with a great strike from the right-hand side of the box, making thescore 1-0.  Ortuño had the final chance of the first half for the Asturians, firing into the side-netting from the left-hand side of the area.  Racing pushed more in the final stages of the first half and Jordi Figueras equalised five minutes before the break.
The home side took more control of the play in the second half, especially after Tejera was dismissed following a VAR consultation.  Lolo, Ibra and Mossa all entered the fray, and the Senegalese forward had the best chance, controlling, turning and shooting into the keeper’s hands.  Moi received a second yellow and the final minutes were extremely tense.  A Mossa cross saw Ibra brought down in the box.  The Oviedistas screamed for a penalty, but the referee decided to not make use of VAR and instead blew immediately for fulltime.
The points were shared and the Real Oviedo players and fans applauded one another at the end of the final match of 2019.
