On this day, April 28, in the year 1946, a warm tribute was paid to Carlos Tartiere de las Alas Pumariño, president of Real Oviedo since the club's foundation twenty years earlier.
On the occasion of Carlos Tartiere being awarded the Medal for Sports Merit by the National Sports Delegation, a tribute was held for him at the Buenavista Stadium on that April 28, prior to the Copa del Generalísimo match between Real Oviedo and Español de Barcelona, which ended with a 3-1 victory for the carbayón team.
With the stadium packed with spectators, various entities presented Carlos Tartiere that day with plaques and other gifts as tokens of affection and gratitude for his years of service to Real Oviedo and the carbayón society in general.
Carlos Tartiere would pass away on July 31, 1950, at the age of 50, after having presided over Real Oviedo for 24 years. In 1958, the Buenavista Stadium would be renamed Carlos Tartiere.
