Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón ahead of Sunday's fixture against Burgos.
The Gaffer will be unable to take his seat on the bench at El Plantío, having been given a two-match suspension following his dismissal against SD Huesca. He reasoned that "whether you agree with it or not, once you've been sent off the ban is what it is. We aren't going to appeal it, because it comes down to one person's word against another's. We know that there are a lot of situations which get confused and don't go your way. We have to accept it and move on."
With respect to Real Oviedo's performance last weekend at the Carlos Tartiere, Ziganda commented that "you go over the match and how to help the team. Things got mixed up by controversial pieces of play and put dents in the confidence...I've gone over it. We are an offensive team and we always push forward, but we had to do more the other day. We probably should have made a defensive change to tighten up, because we gave Huesca space. The goals we conceded were not due to the defensive system, but rather about specific passages in play."
Asked about the team's defensive solidity in recent matches, the Coach admitted that "it's true that in the last month we have conceded more than we normally do, and now we have to see how we'll respond. It's simple to recover our framework; solidity and security are vital in this division. I believe in the group, it is of a great level, but we have to get back to feeling good. We all need to push in the same direction."
Ahead of possible changes for the Burgos fixture, and discussing competition in the centre of the field, Ziganda stated that "the team has been consistent at home and feels comfortable, but we haven't felt like that away from home. We have to believe in what we are doing and show that solidity that we have been lacking. We have been thinking about a possible change for a couple of weeks. We have three players in the centre of the field, not including Javi Mier, who hasn't been training so much. They have been starting players if you look at their game time, what they've deserved, and their performances. They have my full belief. It's good for the team to have good trump cards."
Regarding the importance of getting three points and bringing an end to Los Azules' poor away form, the Coach highlighted that "it would be good to win. The team is consistent in many senses, but there are things we still need to implement and that's why we aren't winning. We need that little step to win and push upwards, which is what we want. We are up against an opponent that is having a great year. They are strong at home and it would be important if we were to get three points." In addition, with respect to the chances of reversing the head-to-head record against Burgos, Ziganda highlighted that "right now we'd take the three points. We have to play the match and see what happens. We have to play the ninety minutes, give it everything, and put in a great performance, because it would mean a lot."
Finally, asked about the mass turnout from the Oviedistas travelling to Burgos, the Coach explained that "it needs to give everyone a boost and be contagious. We felt down on Monday, but come Tuesday the fans still believed that we can do things. We still have time to do anything. The boost in confidence and belief is important. The squad has to take on the energy and the belief and fight to the end, no matter what happens. The example given by the fans is a great boost, and we have to grab onto the fans' standard."
