Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared before the Press this morning, ahead of Sunday's fixture against Huesca at the Tartiere.
Discussing the week and the new signings, following Hugo Rama's debut last time out, the Gaffer said that Rodri Tarín "is ready to play, and if we have to use him then there's no problem." He has the starting eleven clear in his mind, albeit "with one small doubt, which we will work out on Sunday. I've got it 90% clear."
Asked about the most commonly used formation used at the Carlos Tartiere, Ziganda explained that "with the 4-4-2 we get forward more, but nothing is unnegotiable. This formation allows us to get more of the strengths out of certain players who can win us matches when they play well. It is going to depend on the players' and the team's performances, but now that we have more players available we will look at it week by week."
Regarding the possibility of the two January signings coming into the starting eleven, the Coach stated that "that's what squads are there for, we have to respect everyone's game time. There are times it's your turn to play, and others when you have to wait. That's the rule of football and of life. All of us are mature enough to know that in every team there are going to be eleven or fifteen players who participate more, and others who feature less. The coach is aware of that and has to battle with the task of keeping people involved. The work one does on a daily basis, he does for himself, and if he stops doing it for himself then he's going to stop receiving chances. There are moments of weakness, but that's what us coaches are here for. We have to spread the message that every day and every match is an opportunity. We have to be strong and rational, because we are in a privileged position."
Ziganda then moved on to discuss the threat of Huesca, describing that "they are a good team that is hurting due to its results. Everyone expected them to be up at the top of the table and it's strange that they aren't in the top three or four. They have brought in players with a lot of quality in January, players who have played in the First Division. They are making an effort and it's to try to finish up there. They have unbelievable ambition and they aren't going to stop trying. Our objective is to put in a great performance and stand up to a team which has been built to finish at the top of the table."
With respect to Huesca's formation, which sees them play with five at the back, the Coach reasoned that "it's like in every other match, which see battles and different systems. The important thing is being able to impose ours on them. It's a battle because there are different areas of the pitch where we are going to have to be at our best. I don't think that the system is a huge obstacle, but we will have to adapt to it. There are variables which we all need to be aware of. We are working on our foundations with the players we pick, and we will prepare the match according to that."
