Matchday 27 in LaLiga SmartBank saw Real Oviedo face SD Huesca at the Carlos Tartiere today. The hosts were unable to hold onto the three-goal lead they had taken in the first half, and would only earn a point.
Prior to the match former Real Oviedo player Juan Carlos Unzué took the honorary kick-off, receiving a warm reception from fans of Los Azules. Real Oviedo went into the match with a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Carlos Isaac, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Pierre; Viti, Luismi, Brugman, Borja Sánchez; Obeng and Borja Bastón. The team would get off to a flying start, ending the opening thirty minutes with a 3-0 advantage. A fine cross into the box from Carlos Isaac saw Borja Bastón turn the ball home at the second attempt to give the Asturians the opener. Real Oviedo showed their desire to keep pushing for further goals, creating chances and playing good football. One such piece of play saw Samuel Obeng convert a lovely overhead kick to make the score 2-0. The third would arrive when Carlos Isaac fired an unstoppable strike from outside the box into the top corner. Huesca would however cut the deficit before the interval.
Huesca came out fighting for the second half due to the deficit on the scoreboard. They took control of the game and took the ball off of Cuco Ziganda's side. Femenías was forced into a great save to prevent Huesca from cutting the deficit further, before the visitors did eventually make the score 3-2 in the 56th minute. Ziganda then turned to his bench to bring on Jimmy. SD Huesca's equaliser would come in the later stages, with just fifteen minutes remaining, when Ignasi Miquel capitalised on a rebound inside the box. Lucas Ahijado and Javi Mier were next to come on, before Pombo and Sangalli entered the fray in the final changes. Ziganda would receive a red card from the referee, who thought that the coach had protested one of his decisions.
Real Oviedo did not take advantage of an opportunity to gain three points against one of the strong playoff candidates, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth after being in a three-goal lead. Real Oviedo will face Burgos CF at El Plantío next time out.
