Real Oviedo Head Coach José Ángel Ziganda appeared in the Press Room today before the team's trip to Extremadura.
The Coach says that "winning has been the best medicine. We could see that we are capable of doing a lot of things well, of controlling a match, and of getting three points. We need to give this continuity now. We have three very intense months left, and we have to take each week as if it were THE WEEK." Asked about the work he would like to single out, Ziganda stated that "we worked on generic offensive and defensive concepts, and everybody's commitment. A lot is about effort and concentration. We are happy with the defensive aspects, for now."
The Coach said that against CD Tenerife, "I'd give us 10 out of 10 defensively, or perhaps 9.5. I don't like to say 10. We gave nothing away. We were very good in the final half hour, and created the chances that we needed in order to have the necessary luck to win the match." It was the first clean sheet for a long time, and Christian and Grippo are also back available for the next match. He continued by saying that "we are going to be unfair to whoever doesn't play, but I also have complete calm in knowing that whoever plays will do well."
Regarding what he expects from Extremadura, the Real Oviedo Head Coach said that "we are very close to each other in the table, and the opponent will consider it a 'cup final' and ask for their fans to help them... in that sense they are going to ask a lot of us. We know that it's a team that plays at a very high tempo, likes to press high and get men forward. We have to come out of our shells and go for it. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses."
Asked about Saúl Berjón, Ziganda stated that, "his conduct has been exemplary. He behaves as a captain should, both when he plays and when he trains. He did a fantastic job defensively on Sunday. I am very happy, not only with him, but with all the captains. They have the role for a reason, and not just for good times, as you can see now. I am delighted with his conduct both in training and in the matches."
Finally, asked about the 50-point target, the Coach replied, "Extremadura. I say it how I feel. It's about Extremadura, Extremadura and Extremadura. And what we have to do to win there. We can't distract ourselves with other issues or looking beyond this week. Nothing more."
