Analysing the state of the team ahead of Saturday's encounter in Ibiza, Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda highlighted that "the team is doing well, with only Marco (Sangalli) out. There were knocks after the last game, but nothing serious. We will have 22 players available. Marco being out is a blow for the team. He's important on a footballing and on a human level. He's a lively, energetic person, who pushes the team on. It's a setback, but we will wait for him to recover."
The Gaffer commented on his feelings about the team's current position in the playoffs, stating that "I don't think about it too much. You live on a day-to-day basis in football. You don't think about if you are up there or down at the bottom, but just about improving. Our start cost us last year and it wasn't easy for us. We are aware of it this year and there are no excuses. We have to learn from past mistakes and work every day to bring sense to what we are doing. There are 15 or 16 teams fighting to finish up there, in the playoffs."
Asked about Borja Bastón's performances and what he brings to the team, the Coach reasoned that "Borja has done phenomenally in the two matches he's started. He put in two great performances and the team noticed it. But we also have to value the Lugo and Tenerife games, which we could also have won, but were just missing the finishing touch. The differences are minor. If the new players give us that plus then we are grateful, but I think it's about the group." In addition, regarding possible changes for the fixture at Can Misses and debuts for players yet to feature, Ziganda believes that "Carlos (Isaac) is one step off playing, and is competing with Lucas (Ahijado). Carlos is training well and confident to play. You can see a bit more in (Jorge) Pombo this week too. I don't see him as being ready to start, but I do to play a while. With the keepers it's a bit different."
With respect to Gastón Brugman and the competition which exists in the middle of the park, the Coach said that "he has a chance of playing. He's doing well, but when he came in it coincided with two fine games from Luismi and Jimmy. Whatever I do, I'll have no doubts." Regarding Joni Montiel, Ziganda commented that "it's the same as always. We have 23 players, but only 11 can play. There are always going to be 12 who don't start. Joni came in late and with Covid issues, but now he has to break into the team. Fight, because there is huge competition. He's a different player to the others we have, and he's in my thoughts."
Samu Obeng has been another of the standout players in these opening matches, with his goals helping the team greatly. Regarding the forward, the Gaffer stated that "Samu's development is normal in football. He works hard and makes the most of his opportunities, that's where his growth comes from. The goals are giving him confidence. He has potential, and now it's in his hands to keep growing as he is doing."
Asked about Ibiza and what he expects from them, Ziganda highlighted that "they haven't lost yet and it isn't a coincidence. They haven't deserved to lose any of their matches. They've been very good and created chances. You see them with a strong core and clear automatic movements. They've built a complete squad, and as a team they will be the best one we have faced so far."
Finally, discussing a boost in spirits surrounding the team following some good performances, Ziganda admitted that "I've noticed it, but I'm not thinking about it too much. My surroundings are limited, but some of it still reaches me. You notice it, and particularly this week given that it's the holidays in Oviedo. However, this is football and there are no half measures. When you win there is a burst of excitement, and then when you lose it's a drama. The message has to remain the same and we have to prepare with the same hunger. The team still has a lot to work on, and we have to synchronise our football team. We are optimistic though, and can see rays of lights."
