Matchday 6 in LaLiga SmartBank took Real Oviedo to Can Misses to face UD Ibiza, with the game ending with Real Oviedo fighting back to gain a point after conceding first.
Cuco Ziganda opted for a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Pierre Cornoud; Viti, Luismi, Jimmy, Borja Sánchez; Borja Bastón and Samuel Obeng, as he looked to find consistency after two good results. Los Carbayones went out at Ibiza with the intention of taking a positive result home from this latest away trip.
The team from the capital of Asturias began the game solidly, with an effective game plan, to face a difficult opponent in UD Ibiza. The team took possession of the ball, held onto it well, and played good football, and the chances started to arrive for Cuco Ziganda's side. Borja Bastón, Samuel Obeng, and the pace of Viti were the biggest threats as Los Azules searched for a breakthrough. Real Oviedo worked hard defensively and pressed high, right the way from the centre forwards to the centre backs. Joan Femenías prevented Ibiza from opening the scoring in the thirtieth minute, as he made a fine save to keep out a header. Despite Real Oviedo being on top, the hosts did manage to take the lead through a Javi Lara strike. The two teams shared the ball after the goal, with neither team creating any opportunities.
Things went the other way after the break, as Ibiza emerged the stronger side, and Real Oviedo found it difficult to link up and get playing again. Ziganda turned to his bench, bringing on Brugman and Jirka in a double change, before Femenías made a great stop to prevent the home team from extending the lead. A triple change saw Javi Mier, Montiel, and Matheus Aiás all come on, and a free kick from Joni Montiel would lead to the equaliser. He swung the ball in from the left, and Brugman got in front of the defenders to apply the finishing touch. The goal got the Asturians back into the game, as they created all of the danger in the final minutes. Montiel, Javi Mier, and Borja Bastón all went close to completing the comeback, but could not convert. Following seven minutes of added time, the referee blew for full time.
All-square at Can Misses, as Real Oviedo picked up an important point against UD Ibiza. This result saw the Asturians move on to nine points in the table. Los Azules will face Girona next time out, with kick-off at 18:15 at the Carlos Tartiere.
