Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today ahead of the Cartagena fixture.
Going into Sunday's match off the back of the first victory of the season, the Head Coach admitted that "things look different after you get a win. It was a deserved victory and we all know how much of a boost three points give you. We have worked with excitement, hunger, and willingness, but the truth is that three points leave you with a special taste. We want to bring consistency to the work and to the results."
The Coach was asked whether Jorge Pombo could start the match at the Tartiere on Sunday. "He came in late and isn't ready to start. He needs training sessions to get up to the speed of his teammates. Pombo's position is on the left, but he can also play behind the striker. He looks to get forward and has quality. We will see how it goes according to the players we have and the needs of the team. He can adapt to both positions. It's good for him and for us."
Discussing a possible change in formation, Ziganda highlighted that "it's a possibility. It went well (against Huesca), but it also worked well against Lugo and Tenerife. We won and the result conditions the way people look at the match. We all want three points and I see the victory as important."
Asked about Brugman and whether he could be an option for the Cartagena encounter, Ziganda commented that "he's got the right tone, personality, and is a good player. It's a possibility he might start, but if not then he will come on later. I see him as being ready to play. He's in good shape, both physically and on a footballing level."
Regarding Cartagena, the Gaffer highlighted that "they've signed players who know the division, and they have a core that knows how to control the phases of a game. They know that you have to hang on in matches in this division, and you can see that they are going to improve. I like their poise and the experience they have. We have to have the idea of getting the best out of our squad, though. The players have to link up well, get to know each other, and connect. We have to get what the players are capable of out of them." In addition, with respect to the kick-off time, the Coach said that "it's strange for us and for the supporters. We have to be prepared for whatever we face, because this is our livelihood, but it's not a time we are used to. It's a shame for the fans, they aren't used to it. It isn't an excuse to not put in a good performance."
Finally, asked about Viti's contribution during the first few matches, the Coach highlighted that "he's had a lively start and has been involved. He is determined and has more belief. We have to make the most of his form, and he has things clear. Viti is a player with incredible physical strengths. He is working hard and performing."
