Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda today appeared before the media ahead of the match against Real Sociedad B.
Asked about the fact that the club has six draws so far this season, the Real Oviedo Head Coach said that "we look back over the matches and what has gone on. When a team draws so much, something is going on. It has its positive side, which is that the team never gives up and competes in every match, and we are close to winning them all. Then it has the other side, which is what we are missing in order to take that next step. There are different types of matches. Against Lugo, for example, the win was there. Against Ibiza, anything could have happened. Tighter games, like in Zaragoza. It's true that for one reason or another we aren't securing the three points. We go over it. What we have to do is hold onto the good points and see what we can do to take that next step and get more points and be at the top of the table. We need to be a bit more clinical going forward. It's a question of persistence."
The Gaffer ruled Pierre (Cornud) out for this match, because "the injury is bothering him. It's nothing serious, but having experienced other cases we prefer to be more cautious and wait another week." Meanwhile, Luismi "continues to progress well". Regarding the starting eleven, he indicated that "we will think it over", but said that the decision for this Sunday was still not clear, due to fixture congestion in the next ten days giving "more opportunities". Ziganda does not wish to take risks with certain players, and accepted that "maybe last year some players played even when they had knocks. This year I have an array of possibilities and it's true that I haven't fully decided yet."
Regarding the fact that it will be special for Sangalli to return home tomorrow, and whether he takes this type of thing into account when making decisions, Ziganda said that "if I'm debating whether one player should play or not then perhaps it can give them an edge, but Marco is a player with a good chance of being involved on Sunday in any case."
With respect to competition for places on the right wing, with Sangalli, Viti and Jirka all available, the Coach said that "throughout the year we will different alternatives and options."
Finally, with respect to this weekend's opponent, Ziganda said that "it's a spectacular ground and we know that they have been playing very good football. Real Sociedad have been doing things very well for years, both in the first team and with the academy. They are bringing continuity to their idea and style of play. They have managed to get their B team into Segunda, and have a lot of players being given the chance in the first team. They are giving all of their opponents a lot of problems in all of the matches. They have a lot of quality and play at a high tempo. They don't have the anxiety or need to get points. They want to win, but they are playing without the same tension. It's a pleasure to watch them play. They are very well-worked, with fluency and defensive organisation. It's a very complete team."
