Real Oviedo Vetusta and Gijón Industrial went head-to-head this lunchtime at El Requexón. The B team picked up the three points, and went back top of Grupo II of the Tercera División.
Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Berto Hórreo; Javi Moreno, René, Merayo, Osky; Isaac, Chus, Yayo, Alex Cardero, David Iglesias and Pedregal. The team improved as the match went on, and got its reward in the 87th minute.
The first half was a cautious affair, with barely any chances for either side and defences on top. The teams went in for halftime with the match goalless.
After the break, Real Oviedo Vetusta took a step forward and became more recognisable out on the pitch, putting Gijón Industrial under pressure. Pablo, Viti, and Mangel came on for the start of the half. Mario Fuente was next to enter the fray, as he made his B team debut. Just a few minutes after coming on he would have the best chance of the match so far, but was denied by a fine save by the keeper. René sent a warning shot with a strong effort from the edge of the box. Vetusta improved following the changes and made the most of the wings to threaten. Conceiçao came on in the final substitution. Just when a 0-0 draw was seeming inevitable, René tried his luck once more from the edge of the area, and his fine strike found the back of the net.
Los Azules added three more points to their tally today, which, thanks to results elsewhere, saw them go back top of the table. Jaime Álvarez's side will travel to face Titánico next Sunday, with kick-off at 12:00.
