Real Oviedo winger, Yoel Bárcenas, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón ahead of the first training session of the week.
The Panamanian declared himself to be “very happy” after last weekend’s victory over Sporting, saying that “the win made us happy and was important for us.”
Following his first derby as a ‘Carbayón’, Bárcenas stated that, “it was a very good experience with the fans lining the streets. It was a good moment for me.”
With respect to whether it had been worth turning down an international call-up in order to play in the derby, Bárcenas declared that, “you could say that. I said that I wasn’t going to go and I knew I’d experience something nice. That’s how it worked out.”
Asked whether the victory over Sporting could provide a spark for the remainder of the season, the attacker reasoned that, “it was a special match and it gives us a boost to our confidence going into the coming matches. It was an important time to win. This victory is worth two. The fans wanted to win this match; they are happy and have been thanking me. They were very involved in the game and we are very happy.”
Looking ahead to the coming match and regarding Reus, the player believes that, “they will arrive wounded and they need to win. We have to play like we did against Sporting, make the most of our home advantage and play well, just as the Coach asks us to.”
Finally, regarding the importance of picking up back-to-back wins, Bárcenas highlighted that, “it’s time to do it. We have to stay calm, and be aware that things you don’t expect can happen in any match. We have to play like we did against Sporting and get the best out of ourselves,” he concluded.
