Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s penultimate training session of the week.
Beginning by analysing the work done by the team over the past few days, he commented that, “there’s a difference between the weeks following victories and those which follow defeats, but that’s all. It’s all about spirit. We need to move on from it as quickly as possible, because I think it’s best for us. We have to get away from it and think about Sunday, when we will have a very difficult game.”
Furthermore, asked whether he’d done any work so that the players forgot about things which are now in the past, the Coach highlighted that, “we’ve done that, but one thing is doing it and another is achieving it. Above all else, we need to know that these three points are worth as much as the three last week. I’ve seen less euphoria, but there is still happiness. I think people are taking on board that the most important game is the Reus one.”
With respect to the state of players carrying knocks, Anquela explained that, “both Ibra and Saúl are on the right track. We’re doing ok and we’ll see.” Asked about Javi Hernández specifically, the Coach responded that, “right from the first day we saw Javi as a player for the first team squad. He played all of preseason with us and was in matchday squads. Now he’s playing and doing well. I hope he keeps going like this.”
Following Aarón Ñíguez’s departure, the Real Oviedo Coach was clear that, “we have to adapt to it. We have enough people to lend a hand if we need them. I spoke to Aarón all the while he was here, and he was going through a difficult spell. I wish him all the luck in the world.”
With Tejera missing through suspension, the Coach believes that, “the most natural options are Javi Muñoz and Richard Boateng, but there are other possibilities. We don’t know yet.”
Anquela describes Reus as “a good football team, even if they’re going through a few problems. They know what they want and never lose hope. They’ve played in one way for a long time and worked hard. We will face problems.” Despite the fact that “it’s very difficult to win two consecutive home matches”, the Coach hopes to “do so and take a step forward.” Regarding Miguel Linares’ return to the Tartiere, Anquela said that, “he knows what he’s coming back to. Everyone loves him here, and we love him too. Miguel is coming home, and he knows it,” he concluded.
