Recreations of the standards used by Stadium and Deportivo, the two founder clubs whose merger led to the creation of Real Oviedo, were today donated to the Real Oviedo Foundation, which will soon be officially presented. The pieces of history were created by Bailiscus y Cía, a group of Oviedistas led by Marcos García.
Both standards make references to noteworthy events experienced by the twoclubs in 1925, the year before they joined together to form Real Oviedo.
One of the standards highlights the title won by Real Stadium Club Ovetense in January 1925, as they were proclaimed champions of Asturias. The other portrays Club Deportivo de Oviedo being granted their royal title in August 1925. From that moment, the club was able to add the crown to the badge and use 'Real' as part of the club name.
In creating both standards, Basiliscus y Cía based their work on those which existed at the time. The group sought to recreate the typography and adornments as accurately as possible, using a manufacturing technique which is very similar to that which was used during the period.
The two standards were embroidered entirely by hand, and in the case of one of the standards uses gold threads for all of the golden elements. The work was carried out by 83 year old Casilda Álvarez and her daughters Aurora and Cristina García. All of them are members of Basiliscus y Cía, and they willingly put their Oviedismo into this project.
Basiliscus y Cía is a group of Oviedistas made up of several members of the Álvarez García family and was born a few years ago with the aims of objectives of
researching, promoting, and defending the history of Real Oviedo's two founder clubs. It is a charitable organisation which has been collaborating with Real Oviedo completely free of charge for some time. Basiliscus y Cía, led by Marcos García (@Basiliscus1926 on Twitter) wanted to make this donation now so as to coincide with the 95th Anniversary of Real Oviedo's foundation, and is now working on other projects related to the club's history.
