Vetusta Promoted in Dramatic Fashion

Jaime Álvarez's side achieves promotion to the Segunda RFEF with a 2-1 victory over CD Colunga at the Carlos Tartiere

Real Oviedo Vetusta triumphed 2-1 against CD Colunga at the Carlos Tartiere today, ending the campaign and securing promotion in the best possible way.
Backed by 2,500 Oviedistas in the stands, the B team finished the season by being crowned champions, with René Pérez's 90th minute goal proving enough to win the side the title.
Jaime Álvarez selected a starting eleven made up of Berto Hórreo; Marc Alegre, Javi Moreno, René Pérez, Osky; Yayo, Álex Cardero, Joselu; Chus, Nnoshiri and Javi Cueto. The team went into the match fully aware of what was at stake.
The first half saw CD Colunga take the lead in the 19th minute. However, Vetusta quickly hit back, with Nnoshiri curling a wonderful strike into the top corner after a fine individual run. Following the equaliser, the B team dominated the encounter, controlling the play and having the better chances.
The match opened up after the halftime interval. The B team continued to try to break the deadlock, while CD Colunga looked to long balls to threaten the hosts. Eloy Ordóñez, Victor Matovu, and Mangel came on in the first Real Oviedo Vetusta changes, before they were later joined by Vanderson and finally Pedregal. Finally, in the 90th minute of the encounter, René Pérez applied the finishing touch to a fine team move, sparking promotion celebrations.
The B team has now been promoted, bringing a close to a year in which they were able to come back from adversity and demonstrate pride on their way to the title.
