Real Oviedo Vetusta and Sporting B went face-to-face today, in front of around 400 spectators at El Requexón. The Matchday 18 fixture in Grupo II of the 3ªRFEF Division ended in a 2-1 victory for the away side.
Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Berto Hórreo; Pablo Menéndez, Javi Moreno, René Pérez, Osky; Yayo, Mangel, Alex Cardero; David Iglesias, Chus and Javi Cueto. The opponents adapted their formation for today's clash, playing with five at the back and allowing Vetusta to control the ball.
The start of the first half was a hard-fought affair, with the two teams going head-to-head and trying to dominate the clash. Sporting B began with high pressing and would enjoy a few bright minutes, but after that Real Oviedo Vetusta were clearly on top, enjoying possession in the opposition half and playing the ball around at will, with Sergio Álvarez's team only able to do anything on the counter. However, it would be the team from Gijón that opened the scoring, with a goal from César. Real Oviedo Vetusta ended the first half with two good opportunities for Javi Cueto and David Iglesias.
Real Oviedo Vetusta emerged for the second half with renewed spark, and a fine goal from Chus would level the scores. Following the equaliser, the match continued in the same fashion, with Jaime Álvarez's team controlling the ball and using quick transitions in play to break through lines and cross into the box. Just when Real Oviedo Vetusta were most on top, Sporting B retook the lead. Eloy Ordóñez, Marc Alegre, Victor Matovu, Lucas Laso, and Pedregal all featured in the second half, and the match ended with the B team penning Sporting B back in their own box, but unable to find the equaliser.
Real Oviedo Vetusta deserved more from the B-team derby. Despite the defeat, Vetusta remain top of the table, five points clear of their closest challengers, CD Llanes and Gijón's B team. Los Azules will play their final match of 2021 away at CD Colunga next week.
