Toché: “We want to turn things around”

The striker admits that “we deserved to lose” in Tenerife, and assures fans that the team is convinced that “we are only depending upon ourselves”

Real Oviedo forward, José Verdú Nicolás "Toché", appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s break. He said that “it was useful in order to disconnect, because it’s a long weekend after losing. We have reset ourselves and go into the week wanting to turn things around.”

Toché admitted that, “it was one of the worst games of the year, and it wasn’t the Real Oviedo that we have been seeing. We deserved to lose. It annoys us because we went there wanting to win. They scored two screamers and we had a short period in the second half with some chances to equalise, but we deserved to lose.”

Asked whether the current situation reminds him of previous years, the striker responded firmly, saying, “not at all. We knew that our good run this year wasn’t going to last all year. Right now, the team knows that there are a lot of games left and that things aren’t great. We are going to try to turn this final part of the season into another positive run like the ones we have had before.”

The side goes into the next game with no recognised forwards available, with both Linares and Toché suspended. Toché commented that, “another teammate will come in, and whoever it is will do well. The players from the youth team have trained with us all year and done very well, but the Coach will make the decision.”

Finally, when asked about matches against the team’s promotion rivals, the forward declared that, “we are only depending on ourselves. I think it’s better to play against teams that have something to play for and that come here trying to win. We find it harder against teams that come here and are happy with a draw,” he concluded.
