The Press Room at El Requexón provided the backdrop as José Verdú Nicolás, ‘Toché’, was presented with the award for September’s ‘Jugador Cinco Estrellas’ Player of the Month. As the focal point in the Carbayón attack, Toché has supported the team through hard work and featured heavily in key moments, as well as being one of the league’s top scorers. He was selected for the award by the fans of Los Azules, who chose between the five players nominated by the beer company on their Twitter profile, @futbolmahou.

The striker declared that, “personally I feel good, scoring quite a lot of goals, but I’m not happy that the team isn’t getting the results. Goals must be accompanied by victories, else they don’t feel the same.” Talking about yesterday’s match, he said that, “we did very well in the first half and had chances to kill the game, but we couldn’t do it. We are left with the feeling that we deserved more, and the point seems like very little reward.”

He reiterated that the team must now “be positive. Although we didn’t win, they didn’t beat us. We’ve not been inferior to any team. We are tough to beat and we have to try to avoid lapses of concentration because they can be punished.”

Asked about how concerned the squad is about the results, Toché assured that, “the team wants to win matches. We know how difficult this league is, and although we feel good, we aren’t sealing victories. We will pick up more points from the upcoming matches.”

When questioned about the officiating yesterday, Toché preferred not to answer. “If I talk about it I’ll get angry, and I don’t want to. I don’t want it to seem an excuse, but they must have as little effect on a game as possible. We hope that the referee doesn’t affect the next match so much.”

Finally, with respect to Saturday’s trip to Granada, who are one of the favourites to challenge for promotion, Toché said that, “there are many teams with much expected of them, but who don’t show it on the pitch. We will go out there to win, hoping that tiredness doesn’t affect us and that we can play well.”
