Real Oviedo striker José Verdú Nicolás, “Toché”, appeared in the Press Room today at El Requexón.

After having earned three points this weekend in Elche, Toché declared that he was “very happy”, assuring that “getting the victory in the last few minutes makes us value it even more. Now we have to keep working, growing and adding points. We are happy to be in this position, but we need to maintain this momentum.”

Speaking about the celebration which followed the final whistle at the Martíne Valero, the forward stated that “we are a very united group, and it was a team win. It was a goal that belonged to everyone; that’s what it means to be a team. I scored, but the best part was celebrating it all together.” Moreover, on the choice of the penalty taker, the Real Oviedo player declared that “I had it clear in my mind and took on the responsibility. I decided to take the penalty, just like the others did. I wanted that responsibility. I knew where to put it and we were lucky.”

Talking about the change in the team’s form since the beginning of 2019, Toché believes that “the wins and points show the difference. During the first half of the season, the results did not tell us what we were seeing on the pitch. We have to keep getting better, without changing our mentality. Keep fighting every match and hope that at the end of the year we can reap the rewards. During the year there are a lot of different periods. Right now it’s going well, and we are looking forwards.”

When asked about the unity in the squad, the Real Oviedo captain pointed out that “we knew we were going to be a small group, counting on the lads from the B Team, but the unity is unanimous. I hope that it bears fruit. The key is humility. Pride alone does nothing for us. We have to try to winthis weekend in front of our fans. It would be very nice. All of us that form part of the squad are aware that we have to contribute and give what we can to the team. We must all give it everything for the team.”

Regarding the next opponent, Alcorcón, Toché commented that “they have a good team. They aren't playing so well right now but they are going to want to change that. We have to analyse our opponent, pick up three points and keep on growing stronger.”

Finally, speaking about the “Tartiere Roar” offer, the attacker hopes that “the fanbase is as excited as we are. We need them. At home there is always a great atmosphere, but I hope more people turn out and we can share some great moments at the Tartiere.”
