Real Oviedo Vetusta returned to El Requexón today, following last weekend's important victory against Ourense CF, ready to face Real Avilés in their Matchday 23 fixture in Grupo 1 of the Segunda RFEF División. Los Azules were looking to continue their recent good run of form, and Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco; Charbel, Lucas Laso, René Pérez, Osky; Yayo, A. Cardero, Iván, Miguel Cuesta, Sesé; and Enol.

The match began with the two sides looking to impose their playing style on the match, with the aim of taking the initiative. The opening minutes of the encounter were very even, before Enol created the first Vetusta chance of the encounter. The striker got to the by-line to meet a fine pass from Cardero, but his cross did not find anyone who could apply a finishing touch.

Jaime Álvarez's team were relentless in their attacks, and Sesé would have another good opportunity around the half-hour mark. The winger met a rebound in the area to fire in a powerful shot, but his effort went just wide. Los Azules had enjoyed the better of the opportunities, took a further step forward, and the goal would not take long to arrive. In the 35th minute Osky would apply the finishing touch to a fine move to open the scoring. Sesé was again instrumental, as his fine wing play and cross left the ball on a plate for the left back to give the B team the lead.

Los Azules went in for the interval in front, and their game plan would not change following the restart, as they emerged for the second half with the aim of extending their lead. Sesé had the best opportunity of the second half for the Asturians, but his effort went over the bar. The match would change drastically shortly afterwards as Lucas Laso received a second yellow card and Real Avilés were awarded a penalty. Natalio stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot went wide. With his team down to ten men, Jaime Álvarez made a triple substitution to strengthen the team and hold on to the lead. Omar, Santiago Román and Mario Fuente came on in the 75th minute, as Los Azules looked to stem the tide of Avilés attacks.

Vetusta stayed strong during the final stages despite having a player less, although Real Avilés also saw Mayorga dismissed in the 89th minute. Following five minutes of added time, the score remained 1-0 and Real Oviedo Vetusta were able to add another important victory to the tally. The side now sits in eighth position with 35 points.
