Real Oviedo produced one of their best away performances of the season as they earned their third consecutive victory in 2019 and outplayed Extremadura for the majority of the match.

The Asturians made two changes to the starting eleven, with Mossa and Carlos Martínez replacing the absent Christian Fernández and Omar Ramos. They responded strongly to the intensity which Extremadura emerged for the match with. Johannesson couldn’t quite get a touch to Mossa’s low cross across the six-yard box within the first two minutes. Extremadura tried to test Champagne with long balls in behind the Real Oviedo defence, but the keeper responded assuredly. Real Oviedo got the reward for their persistence just after the half-hour mark, sealing the good work done up until that point. Joselu nudged home at the back post after Carlos Hernández had headed back across goal. Anquela’s side grew still stronger following the goal, and a lovely passing move led to Folch having the chance to double the lead, but he headed wide.

After the break both the chances and the domination continued. Bárcenas ran through and shot straight at Álvaro Fernández. However, the Panamanian made no mistake when volleying home Carlos Martínez’s cross to seal the 2-0 victory. Extremadura pushed forward in attack but Real Oviedo, who made a few substitutions, maintained their defensive solidity.

Anquela’s side will return to training tomorrow at Las Caldas, where they will undergo a regenerative session from 17:00.
