Real Oviedo goalkeeper Nereo Champagne appeared in the Press Room after the training session at El Requexón this morning.
The keeper appreciated, before anything else, the good feelings after the victory. “When one wins, the sensations are different, but they are here just for a moment and now we focus on Zaragoza. It’s another final, and will be a wonderful game in which three important points are at stake. The victories, due to how we’ve been playing, provide us confidence. One day you win by luck, or with hardly any shots on goal, but we have put forth the effort to earn these wins, and that’s important. It puts us in a good place.”
Moreover, Champagne explained that “we are gaining confidence, the more games we play the better we feel. We’ve got almost the same group of guys playing together every match, we are more familiar with each other, and now it seems that we can fix things with one word, whereas before we couldn’t."
When asked about the short rest for the team this week and the importance of catching up to the top of the table, the Argentine keeper pointed out that “unfortunately the injuries are not helping us out, but with each win we are feeling better as a team. The team is playing in the way that we want to play, which is the most important thing and will show what we are capable of doing. It’s clear that it is important to gain points and gain ground in the table, as well as convincing those on the outside, since we were already convinced of what we could do."
Finally, and only three days away from the next fixture in La Romareda, Champagne concluded that “when you’re on the right track, what you want isn to keep playing. Zaragoza is a great team in the division. The worse are things for them, more people go to the stadium. They are a very difficult opponent, against Málaga they had their chances at winning and in their last match they came back from two goals down on the road. It’s going to be a tough match.”
