In addition to being points in Asturias, Oviedo, Avilés, Gijón, Salinas, Villaviciosa and Arriondas hold a close link to Real Oviedo. To be more exact, to the starting eleven used by Jaime Álvarez against UP Langreo B in the third match of the league season. Real Oviedo Vetusta triumphed 6-1, securing their second victory of the season.
Marco, Pablo Menéndez, Javi Moreno, Joselu Guerra, Javi Cueto, Eloy Ordóñez, René Pérez, Álvaro Pedregal, Alex Cardero, Osky and Yayo were the Asturian starting eleven which, 6 years and 11 months on from the last time it happened, filled Oviedistas with pride once more. This achievement was the fruit of the club's efforts to bring a sense of belonging back to the academy.
The previous time that Real Oviedo Vetusta lined up with 11 Asturians was on 19th October 2014, in Santa Catalina. The starting eleven that day was made up of Marcos, Castiello, Óscar Ruíz, Emilio, Colo, Adrián Llano, Iván Fernández, Héctor, David González, Cristian and Lucas.
Real Oviedo Vetusta's squad for the 2021/22 season boasts 17 players born in Asturias, the majority of which came through the academy and worked their way through the youth teams. Many of them are still under 19 players, who have improved significantly and have won places in the B team.
