Tenerife Were the Better Side

Real Oviedo left the Heliodoro empty-handed after a match in which they were always some way behind the home side (3-1)

Real Oviedo were incapable of bringing their poor run of results to an end at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. Anquela decided to replace the absent Folch by bringing Verdés into the defence and moving Forlín into central midfield.

Real Oviedo had the best chances in the early stages of the match. Saúl Berjón’s direct free kick was kept out by the home keeper, while Carlos Hernández’s attempt from a set piece went close to the top corner. Tenerife responded from their first attack into the Real Oviedo box. Longo brought the ball down well and finished excellently to score the first for the home side. Real Oviedo couldn’t keep hold of the ball, and the hosts doubled their lead six minutes before the break. The second half began with Fabbrini coming on in place of Mossa and a change in formation.

The Italian had the first chance of the half, but a defender cleared off the line. Tenerife had opportunities to extend their lead, but eventually Forlín managed to make the score 2-1 and bring Real Oviedo back into the game. The Asturians had chances to equalise. Fabbrini’s cross was looking for Toché, but the home keeper managed to grab hold of it, before Carlos Hernández again headed over from a corner. It was then, however, that Tenerife managed to seal a 3-1 victory on the counter attack, leaving no time for Anquela’s team to respond.

This defeat extends Real Oviedo’s poor recent run of results. The team will return to Oviedo tomorrow and on Tuesday they will begin to prepare for the match against Granada.
