Real Oviedo faced their first Copa del Rey knockout round this Tuesday. The Asturian team traveled to Galicia to take on Ourense CF, a Primera RFEF team, in a match where Luis Carrión opted for a lineup marked by rotations, consisting of: Moldovan, Rahim, Dani Calvo, Baily, Lucas, Sibo, Reina, Ilic, Hassan, Brekalo, and Forés.
The match began with alternating dominance and few clear chances. Oviedo managed to take the lead in the first quarter of an hour, thanks to a penalty converted by Brekalo. With the 0-1 scoreline, the Carbayón team went into halftime with the advantage, although the home side had several dangerous opportunities to equalize.
In the second half, Ourense stepped up and managed to equalize the match with a fine goal from Jerín. Shortly after, Ilic put Oviedo back in the lead with the 1-2. However, in the last minute of the game, a lateral free kick resulted in the home team's equalizer (2-2), sending the match into extra time. During the second half, Carrión made substitutions, bringing on Agudín, Colombatto, Viñas, Javi López, and Brandon.
In extra time, the Galician side dominated from start to finish and sealed the knockout round with two goals, one in each half. A final score of 4-2 and a penalty saved by Moldovan in the last play of the match marked the end of Real Oviedo's Copa del Rey journey on an afternoon to forget.
