Real Oviedo player, Saúl Berjón, appeared in the Press Room this morning to analyse yesterday’s defeat at the Nou Estadi.
Asked for his feelings, the Oviedo-born winger highlighted that, “I consider it an unfair defeat, but it’s a defeat all the same. The team went home hurting because we lost in the last minute, but that’s how we won the week before. There’s a long way to go and we need to improve from set pieces. We are looking for ways to improve and put together some wins.”
With the team having conceded from a set piece once more, Saúl explained that, “we mustn’t look at their luck, but at our own mistakes. We must learn not to make those mistakes, because a point would have been good, even if three would obviously have been better. We had fifteen poor minutes in the first half and then they had a chance at the start of the second. It’s true that football is being harsh with us, even when we make
the smallest mistake. My opinion is that we are doing things well despite yesterday’s defeat. We were superior and created chances, but we didn’t convert them. It all adds up, and if we’d scored three we’d have won. The defensive aspect is the most noticeable since they scored in the last minute, but if we’d taken our chances...we have to keep working both defensively and offensively.”
With respect to the formation, the midfielder was unequivocal, highlighting that, “I think that’s a matter for the Coach and nobody else should get involved in it”. In addition, regarding the return of teammates who have spent periods absent through injury, he commented that, “it’s good because we need everybody available.”
Finally, when asked about the team’s inconsistency, Saúl commented that, “I think that this division is inconsistent by nature. We’d like to be consistent, play well and enjoy it. We’re in mid table and we’d like to be
higher up, but it’s all about avoiding errors and carrying on. This weekend we face a team that has one more point than us and that is having a great season in Mallorca. We are aware that it will be very difficult. All of us would like to be up there right from the first match, have a great year and enjoy it. Within this club we are a tight unit. We know that there are good moments and bad ones, but we want there to be as few bad ones as possible,” he concluded.
