Real Oviedo winger, Saúl Berjón, appeared in the Press Room this morning, following the victory over CD Lugo at the Carlos Tartiere. In addition to scoring a penalty in this match, Saúl was also involved in the build-up to the other two goals. He downplayed his key role, stating that, “the important thing is that the team won. Winning always feels different. We really needed the three points after our performance in Alcorcón, so that we can work under less pressure this week.”
He continued by saying that, “they dominated the first half, but in the second half we took the initiative and that helped us. We now know the way to go, and are improving every day. You notice a difference when the team pushes forward more in attack. We have a good team and good players, and when we play our game we can go toe-to-toe with anyone. Lugo weren’t top by chance. They’ve been playing good football for years, and they have ever more well-known players. They’ve kept their philosophy of good football, and things are going well for them.”
Talking about the team’s improvement in the second half, the Ovetense explained that, “by pushing the team forward, we have more people attacking. We showed that we know how to attack and defend well, and that is what we must do. We all have to attack and defend. It doesn’t matter if I am involved in the goals, as long as they go in. It’s important that the Coach is demanding of us, because that helps me give my best. Anquela gets nervous during matches, and shows he cares through other means. However, it always comes from wanting the best for us, and never for any negative reason.”
Regarding the penalty he converted, the midfielder explained that, “I knew where I was going to put it. Then it comes down to whether they save it or not, but luckily I scored.”
Asked about the change in system and how it affects his game, Saúl pointed out that, “it benefits me because I keep playing and doing the best I can. This formation is different, and in some games, it works out better and in others worse. It’s similar, and I don’t see too much difference.”
With respect to the support from the fans, who once again pushed the team on until the end, Saúl commented that, “we can only thank them. They were exemplary yesterday, as they have been all along. A few people got nervous, but in that moment the rest clap, beat the drum, and sing. We have to thank the fans. We are delighted that they support us to the end, and they pushed us on to come back to win against the leaders. Now we are going to Tarragona to bring them back the three points. I hope we keep a clean sheet, but the important thing is to win. This victory has given us a lot of motivation. Nástic have just won 3-0 at Real Valladolid, but why can’t we do the same to them? We are going there to win.”
Finally, and regarding teammate Diegui Johannesson’s call-up to the Iceland squad, Saúl Berjón showed his happiness. “He deserves it. He is a very special lad in the changing room and we are very happy for him. I hope it all goes well, that he plays, and most of all that he enjoys it,” he concluded.
