Real Oviedo, a Spanish Segunda División side which is currently in the playoff places as it fights to return to the Primera División, will participate in the 2018 edition of the Dallas Cup. Two of the club’s youth teams will take part in an international tournament in the USA for the first time.

The academy of the club where players such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla were produced is currently going through an important period of growth and is establishing itself in Spanish football. The first team is currently challenging at the top of LaLiga 123 and is competing for promotion to LaLiga Santander, the best league in the world.

The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, which is the oldest and most prestigious international youth team football tournament in the USA, will host Real Oviedo for the first time. The club’s Juvenil and Infantil sides will compete in one of the countries which boasts the highest number of shareholders in the club. Following the capital increase campaign of 2012, in which an unprecedented global movement managed to save the club through a share campaign around the world, Real Oviedo has more than 50,000
shareholders in 125 countries. This includes a huge number of supporters in the USA, many of whom have even travelled to Spain to see their European team. It is a wonderful story, which even ended up on the cover of the New York Times. That campaign has now allowed the Spanish club to recover its important place on the nation’s footballing scene, as well as expanding its brand internationally.
