Real Oviedo defender, Héctor Verdés, appeared in the Press Room following the latest day’s work.

Talking about the defensive absences caused by suspensions, and his chances of returning to the starting line-up this weekend against Almería, the Valencian stated that, “I’ve been fighting for a while to get back in. The team is doing well, and it’s normal not to make changes. I have my chance now and I am going to fight.” In addition, the defender said that, “now I just need to work hard to make it difficult for the Coach, and after that it’s out of my hands.”

With respect to the trajectory of the team during the first half of the season, Los Azules’ Captain highlighted that, “the team has been doing well. We need to keep this form up, but be aware that form doesn’t guarantee victories.” In addition, regarding the previous two away trips for Los Carbayones, Verdés said that, “they were two difficult matches. We did very well, but we didn’t win. That says a lot about how hard this league is. We have a tough game this weekend, but we will go out there for the win.”

With reference to the team’s return to the Carlos Tartiere and what playing at home means to the group, the defender admitted that, “everyone likes the Tartiere, and we have to become strong. It needs to be a fortress for us. We need to make the most of the connection we have with the fans. It’s great to see how they support us.”

Finally, asked about the fine form of teammate Carlos Hernández, and the way in which the goals have been spread around the squad, Héctor said that, “Carlos has been a huge success, and if he can score another five in the second half of the season then great. It’s helpful for the team. We all have to contribute to the team, and if the goals are shared around then that’s a good thing. If not, we would be talking about lacking goals,” concluded the Valencian.
