Real Oviedo could only take home a point from Vallecas, despite having been worthy of a victory away from the Carlos Tartiere.

The Asturians, who opted for the same line-up and formation as in recent matches, were by far the better side in the first half. However, they fell behind from a move which started with a clear handball in the Rayo attack and ended with Domínguez opening the scoring. Real Oviedo responded, and equalised in the fortieth minute, following a fine first half in which the home side had very few chances and the Oviedistas controlled the match. Christian Fernández prodded the ball home after Mossa’s cross into the box and several blocked efforts. Real Oviedo’s goal made the score 1-1 at the break.

At the beginning of the second half, Carlos Hernández headed home from a corner to provide the second for Anquela’s side, and Real Oviedo continued to dominate proceedings. Rayo increased their possession in the following minutes, but an elbow on Linares saw a red card produced for Velázquez. Shortly afterwards, the hosts received a very debatable penalty. Christian Fernández was knocked to the ground by the force of a shot which he blocked with his face, but the referee declared it a penalty, which Trejo converte to equalise for Rayo. Real Oviedo had chances for a third goal to take home the victory. Rocha went closest in injury time, as he fired against the post from long range.

The match ended with the team returning to Oviedo by bus, and with a point. They resume a new week of training on Monday at 17:00, at El Requexón.
