The press room of the Carlos Tartiere held the press conference that Fernando Hierro has carried out as his final farewell as part of Real Oviedo.

The Malagueño was accompanied by the President of the club, Jorge Menéndez Vallina, who started by thanking Fernando Hierro for his work at with the Real Oviedo team, assuring that "Fernando and his team have done everything in their power to get the objective, have helped to improve the club and have professionalized it. It is not necessary to point out to anyone, the problem has been of all and now it is necessary to analyze what happened. I want to thank him for all that he has done at Real Oviedo and wish him luck in his future. "

For his part, the Málaga coach has taken stock of his eleven months at the helm of Real Oviedo stating that "being sincere I came to the club to make it grow, with my experience as a sports director and as a general manager, as well as to fight for the goal. We have worked with the whole team, to whom I thank their professionalism and hard work. With the professionalism, work, and day to day efforts, we can leave happy; progress has been made in the professionalism of the club. My summary of the year is that we had chances to reach our objective until the 42nd match. I am a winner and I like to win, so I leave with sadness not being able to see a full Tartiere, not to see the happiness of the people and the workers. I wish I could find myself in the future to the people who have surrounded me in the day to day. We had it in hand and I'm going with that little thorn, that's why we came and it was a challenge. We tried to fight to the end but could not get it. For professionalism, work, sacrifice ... in that I am happy, I have nothing to reproach in those aspects. Everyone can say, but for work, effort and sacrifice I'm happy. "

As for how the events happened and when he made the decision not to continue as a coach, Fernando Hierro acknowledges that "on Monday at 9 am we talked with the club. We had a reasonable and logical conversation, in wich boths sides exposed our points of view. We made a decision from the cordiality, without reproaches, as I have done all my life. We have had very good relationship with the club, a logical relationship. We listened and made a good decision for all parties. " In addition, on what has been that conversation, the former Real Oviedo coach emphasizes that "we have made the best decision for the two parties. It is not who wins or loses. The relationship with the club has not been like that, it has been set, listening to us, understanding that it was the best thing for the future. "

When asked about how he sees the Real Oviedo project for the next few years, Fernando Hierro understands that "when I arrived here, we held the press conference and we said that in four years the club had to return to the First Division. I came here to contribute, to take the club to the top. I am grateful to Grupo Carso for this opportunity, it has been and is a pleasure to train the club. When the years pass, I will always think of the club and the Carso Group that gave me this opportunity. We are soccer people and we decided to speak to the first year. The club project does not change, the club has to return within the next four years to the top. I hope it's next year. I hope that Real Oviedo enjoys this success with their team. We're leaving with a more professional club, with more structure." In addition, the Malaga coach believes that "the club has to keep growing and prepare to return to First Division. People can give their opinion, but regarding what we can see, the club has taken a big step in the right direction. Hopefully they will prepare well for when the moment arrives. "

As for his experience as a coach and how he has lived Oviedo and Real Oviedo, Fernando Hierro acknowledges that "it has been a wonderful experience to train a club like this. I wanted to come here for the greatness and the model of this club. I set aside an offer to train a team outside of Spain that economically was much better than the offer to train here. The months that I have been here have been fantastic and I'm leaving with a clear conscience. I have faced the challenge with courage. It has been an honor to be coach of this club. I've been saying goodbye yesterday; it's an wonderful city with good people. I have lived in the city´s center and the people in the street have had an exquisite behavior. I leave leaving behind extraordinary friends, enjoying the city ... now I will go to Madrid for a couple of days and then to see my mother.¨ In addition, the former Real Oviedo coach has wanted to have a memory for the people who work in the club, noting that "last night I said goodbye to the workers of the club. Utilleros, doctors, staff ... they are people with blue hearts, extraordinary people, that when I go, you will have a friend here. It was worth it to be here, as this club has some wonderful workers. "

When asked about his future, the Málaga coach says that "there are rumors. Right now I just think about finishing. For many months repeating the same thing, I've been concentrating on the opportunity to get into play off. Now I just want to be with my family and rest. The future is never known, but right now I only see myself with my family. "

As for the differences between the responsibilities as a player and as a coach, Fernando Hierro understands that "they are two different things. It's one thing to be a player and one to be the coach. In one you have a role and in the other as well. The coach is the father of all defeats and it is so. It's a theory of football and we're not going to change it. I have accepted my responsibility, knowing and understanding that we needed that step to protect the club. The experience told me that I had to take that step to protect the club with the noise that is here. We managed to get to the 41st match day talking only about football. I was trying to protect my club, that's what I had to do. "

When asked for his opinion about when the team lost their chances to qualify for the play-offs, the coach from Málaga said: “it is difficult to know when we lost our chances. All teams who finished below us in the classification think the same, and Real Valladolid too. We have fought and we have missed just a victory to qualify for the play-offs. In this regard, when I think about this season, I know that if we did not reach the goal it was not because we did not work enough or because we did not try. Everybody can have his opinion, but at large I am satisfied, but with the only thing to take away that we did not reach the play-off. I am content for having fought for our objective, but with sadness that I have not been able to see the Carlos Tartiere full of people to watch a play-off match. We have behaved professionally, with our faults and strengths, but we have worked hard.”

Finally, Fernando Hierro, asked about a piece of advice for his successor, he was categorical: “I would tell him to come. It is a great club, a great city. And I would wish him good luck. The challenge is worth it. To anyone who asks me, I would tell him to come here and to take the team to First Division. I do not have regrets. Anything I had to tell, I said privately. I like to work as a team.¨

Thanks for everything, Fernando. Good luck with your future endeavors.
