The Press Room at El Requexón today played host to the presentation of the award for December’s ‘Jugador Cinco Estrellas’ Player of the Month to Diegui Johannesson. The Asturian full back, who was one of the team’s most in-form players during the final part of 2018, was voted for by fans of ‘Los Azules’. The supporters chose between the five players nominated by the beer company on their Twitter profile @futbolmahou.
Pleased with the award, Diegui stated that he felt “quite good. I believe that this award shows that I’m playing well, but you always have to keep improving.” With respect to the two consecutive triumphs by the team, he highlighted that, “these two victories have been crucial. Now we hope that we can keep this going. It was important to get the wins for our spirit and for the calmness within the camp, but now we have to keep going like this to push up the table.”
With the first half of the season now complete, Johannesson evaluated the progress so far, saying that, “there have been ups and downs, but with good play too. We’ve been unlucky, but now we are trying to find that balance. We are sticking together as a unit, not conceding, and are threatening in attack.”
The next fixture will take the team to Extremadura. The defender described the next opponent as “a great side that have made things hard for the teams that have visited their ground. It’s going to be difficult for us, but we need to compete and produce a good performance,” he concluded.
