Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón this morning to assess the work done by his team this week before visiting Extremadura.

When asked about the injuries, the Real Oviedo coach responded optimistically, saying that ¨each day we are getting people back, these problems are almost over. In football, you´ve got to take it as it comes, but he that does well, comes out on top and we try to minimise the damages.¨Although he wants to wait until the last training session, Anquela explained that ¨Mossa has some pain, and we´ve got to be very cautious. I hope that he is ready, but if not, someone else will play, we won´t
complain. We are prepared to compete, we are showing it from week to week and we want to keep going in this direction. ¨ Moreover, the Jaén-born coach commented, ¨Of course, we analysed why the injuries were happening but I believe this problem is common in many teams. We compete to the limit, and when we do that, these things happen. It´s very normal and, to play a football match at a high level you have to take it to the limit. ¨

After having notched two consecutive wins, Anquela was clear that ¨the only thing that we are interested in is getting points, and if we do this, surely, we will make up ground. We are going to try to make it happen, but we know the difficulties that we will face and if we are not prepared to compete, we will have a lot of problems. ¨ The match will be against an Extremadura side that has lost its top goal scorer but, having found three replacements, ¨has bested Alcorcón, which is the team with least goals conceded, and is a team that competes and does things right. Everyone at this level does things right, and Extremadura do them very well.¨ With half of the season already completed, the Real Oviedo coach emphasised that ¨the only thing that is important is that we go to Almendralejo to compete, because if we don’t then we won’t even draw. They are a good team and are doing things right.¨

When asked about the statistic that Real Oviedo is the team with third lowest amounts of shots received, but among the top ten in goals conceded, the coach commented that ¨at the beginning of the season there were teams that scored great goals against us, and we conceded many goals from set plays. That´s the reason why we conceded so few shots but so many goals. It is a big problem, obviously, and we are working on improving. Those are important statistics, talking about injuries… We have a statistic that shows that in 16 or 17 of the games played we have played at a higher intensity than the opponent. We have done so against almost all opponents, and that makes me proud. We trust in our guys with our lives and that is the only way to do it. If one soldier falls, another steps forward. We´ve got to go for it with everything we´ve got.

For Anquela, winning three matches in a row ¨would be awesome, very important, but we have to think about competing and if we don’t compete, we will have a lot of problems. Competing and luck will get you success. Fight, run like we´ve been running, as if we don´t have a choice. We are very equal and things are decided in key moments. We´ve got to go into it prepared for what we are going to find, we´ve got to roll up our sleeves and get our heads in the game from the moment we get on the bus. We are competing with a real team and with a fanbase that really helps their team out.¨
