Real Oviedo Head Coach Javi Calleja appeared in the GAM Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere ahead of this Thursday's training session.
The Coach began by evaluating his team's performance against Eldense, saying that "it was a tough ground to go to. Both teams had spells on top, but now we have to win at home to turn it into a good point. The demands couldn't be higher. We have to find consistency which allows us to keep growing."
Asked whether there is pressure on the team to get three points each weekend, the Gaffer stated that "the world of football is going crazy. There have been three coaches sacked in six matches. That is something that we have to study and see why it is happening and why everyone is in such a hurry. We have to look at why people believe in a project and then shortly afterwards stop believing. I don't think it's just due to coaches and results. You only achieve objectives here at the end of the season. We have to be patient, all work together and be united, with sights on the mid- to long-term. Everything has a process to it."
With respect to his team's play, the Coach argued that "we mustn't be dramatic. The team is taking steps forward in an intermitent fashion, but we have to look for consistency. We are growing in the things we are looking for, we are better-positioned out on the pitch, but now we have to improve by doing everything quicker."
Asked about possible changes to the starting eleven, Javi Calleja commented that "we have been trying things, such as switching the wingers. I go over things about the team all day, every day, thinking about how to improve and get more out of my players. There are a lot of options."
Finally, regarding Eibar, who will visit the Carlos Tartiere at 18:30 this Sunday, the Coach highlighted that "I see them the same as last season. There have been changes, and they've lost important players but made good signings. It's the same Eibar. They have been fighting at the top of the league for years and they do well, their work is done there. Eibar is one of the teams I like most, and it will be one of the most difficult matches of the season."
