Real Oviedo striker Ibra appeared in the Press Room this morning after the transfer window closed, speaking about his personal situation and that of the team. The forward explained that “I’m fine. There were rumours that I wasn’t going to stay and that they didn’t want me here, but here I am. I’m a Real Oviedo player until next summer and all that’s left for me to do is to train and work hard. I had offers which would have earned me more money, but I wanted to stay here. It doesn’t affect me at all and it’s normal that people talk because I’m a professional player. It’s up to me to work and do as well as possible. What matters to me is Real Oviedo being as strong as possible.”
Asked about his relationship with Sergio Egea, Ibra commented that “the Coach has always spoken to me. He wants me to keep training and working, and thinks I’m looking good. Ibra is ready for what is coming. I’d like to be out on the pitch and giving everything, but I will help the team wherever I am, even if I’m just cheering it on from the bench.”
With respect to his personal situation, what Ibra is not lacking is excitement and belief. “I am convinced that I’m going to do better than last year. I’m going to play. We have to turn our form around and get three points in Miranda.”
Regarding the three matches played to date, the striker said that “they’ve been dramatic and very painful. We’ve been doing well and not getting any luck. We have to do our homework and not drop our guard, right up until the final whistle in each match. Whoever is on the pitch has to be alert and defend the badge to the death, right up until the final second.”
With sights now set on the trip to Anduva, the forward concluded by admitting that “we need a victory now, but we have to be calm. We need humility and respect for our opponent, and for the whole squad to be together and strong.”
