Homenchenko Signs for Real Oviedo

The young Uruguayan becomes the third January signing, joining on a loan deal running until June 2024

Real Oviedo and Club Pachuca have reached an agreement for Santiago Homenchenko to join the Asturians on a loan deal running until June 2024.
 
The 20-year-old Uruguayan was born on 30th August 2003 in Mercedes, Uruguay. Having come through the youth ranks at several Uruguayan clubs, the midfielder joined Club Atlético Peñarol in 2021, finishing his academy period there. Homenchenko made his professional debut aged 19 in the Torneo Clausura on 18th September 2022, and played 30 matches for Peñarol's first team, as well as representing Uruguay's youth teams.
 
Last June saw the midfielder crowned champion of the Under-20 World Cup, with Uruguay beating Italy 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy for the first time in their history. Following his fine performances, he has now been called up to the Under-23 national team, and on 20th January will begin participation in South American qualification for the Olympic Games.
